"2016 China Medical Device Industry Development Blue Book" Released | Pharmaceutical Daily

According to the Blue Book, according to a sample survey by the China Medical Materials Association, the total size of China's medical device market in 2016 was about 370 billion yuan, an increase of 62 billion yuan from 308 billion yuan in 2015, a growth rate of about 20.1 percent. Among them, the medical device market is about 269 billion yuan, accounting for about 72.70 percent; the home medical device market broke through the 100 billion yuan mark for the first time, about 101 billion yuan, accounting for 27.30 percent.
Based on the total market size of 370 billion yuan, there are 14200 medical device manufacturers in China, with an average of about 26.06 million yuan each, an average increase of about 4.37 million yuan compared with 21.69 million yuan in 2015. There are 186300 operating enterprises, with an average of about 1.99 million yuan each, an average increase of about 340000 yuan compared with 1.65 million yuan in 2015.
Six major obstacles to the development of the medical industry
The "Blue Book" pointed out that with the comprehensive advancement of the Healthy China 2030 and the Made in China 2025 as a national strategy, the development of China's medical device industry is generally benign, but there are still many problems that need to be improved.
1. There are too many production industries for the same product, only focusing on its shape, not its meaning.
At present, there are more than 10,000 domestic medical device manufacturers, but there are often more than a dozen, dozens or even hundreds of companies producing the same product. The products produced by different companies have different standards, and the overall level is not up to international standards. The degree of integration causes waste of resources. Most of the products produced are assembled, improved appearance packaging, and product quality and higher R & D capabilities are ignored. This results in a process of focusing only on its shape and not on its meaning.
2, medical device research and development and clinical integration is not close.
Enterprises in the process of product development and clinical integration is not close, often only pay attention to the registration link, from obtaining clinical evaluation to get the product registration certificate, most of the links mixed with human factors. However, in the process of research and development and clinical trials, the number of tests is not enough, the recognition of industry experts is not enough, and the linkage detection of industry-university-research medical examination is not enough. In the end, there are too many imitations of imported equipment, while comparing its functions, there are still many deficiencies in details.
3, the standardization and automation of industrial production is not high
The production workshops of many small and medium-sized enterprises are still at the level of manual workshops and do not have the ability to automate production. In particular, there is no standardized production and operation process, and there are many problems in the assembly of medical equipment, which leads to endless quality problems in the process of equipment use. This is also one of the reasons why some domestic enterprises' products are not recognized.
4, comply with the hierarchical diagnosis and treatment policy, the effective configuration of medical devices is insufficient.
While the national hierarchical diagnosis and treatment system is vigorously promoted, grass-roots hospitals need corresponding large-scale equipment, but the configuration is not balanced. Some hospitals are over-invested in equipment, resulting in a waste of resources. Some hospitals are not equipped to carry out the corresponding inspection. To carry out effective medical equipment configuration according to local conditions, according to the actual situation of the hospital to configure the corresponding medical equipment. Hospitals that cannot do the corresponding examination can be referred through graded diagnosis and treatment, and large-scale medical equipment can be effectively allocated in hospitals with high-quality resources according to the number of population and the degree of Junior College construction.
5. The ratio of domestic medical devices in tertiary hospitals is insufficient.
At present, domestic medical devices are rarely used in tertiary hospitals, and the ratio is uneven. The key is mistrust of the quality of domestically produced products and the criteria for diagnosis or treatment. Not getting more clinical expert recognition is one of the reasons. However, some large-scale enterprises have reached the level of integration with the international leading level. They should be supported by combining the characteristics of products used in hospitals, and stipulate a certain ratio of standardized large-scale medical device manufacturers and equipment, so as to give excellent national industrial products in clinical practice. Opportunities for continuous improvement. Only in this way can the national industry thrive.
6, medical device approval registration name and price of the relationship between confusion
In the process of the development of medical devices in China, the policy of independent pricing of enterprises has been formulated. It was originally for the rapid development of industry and decentralization. Enterprises can operate the market according to their own research and development costs and the balance of supply and demand of market demand, but often some enterprises drill the gap of policy to make a lot of fish-eyed products, which is one of the reasons why many hospitals refuse to apply domestic medical equipment.
For example, with the registered name of "functional accessories", the materials are different and the prices vary greatly. Production enterprises are also numerous, ranging in size. It has created a lot of mixed situation. This leads to the impression that the overall level of domestic medical equipment is not high. In fact, many products of standardized production enterprises have quality assurance, after R & D and registration. Many small businesses also registered the same name, the profit gap in the market is very large. However, as long as the dealers of heavy profits use the products produced by small enterprises for clinical use, they will produce high kickbacks and corruption. Therefore, it is necessary to realize the national product networking mechanism and supervision mechanism in terms of registered name and pricing, so as to effectively alleviate the chaotic situation.
The elimination intensified, the industry will usher in oligarchs.
Bai Yu, vice president of the China Medical Materials Association and president of the Medical Device Branch, said that the phenomenon of small, multiple, scattered and low-level competition among medical device companies has not been fundamentally changed. In the future, the industry will develop from "a hundred flowers blooming" to a centralized direction. The domestic medical device industry has a strong demand for mergers and acquisitions, and the industry will also usher in oligarchs. Industrial integration is the inevitable direction of future development.
Bai Yu believes that China's medical equipment industry should go through a process from "letting a hundred flowers blossom" to gradually concentrate. However, judging from China's current market, the situation of many, small, scattered and chaotic will continue for quite a long time, and then focus on development. Finally, there are a few better developed oligarchs, which will focus on a unique enterprise in a certain field.
"For example, in the wheelchair industry, there are now hundreds of brands in the wheelchair industry, but in the past two years, I know of more than a dozen wheelchair brands that have been shut down. Every year, the latter 10% of the industry will be eliminated, and finally the rest will be less and less." Bai Yu said.
Bai Yu said that the birth of medical device giants requires the continuous enhancement of market transparency, and some industry brands will stand out and become more and more influential. At the same time, coupled with all kinds of domestic and overseas mergers and acquisitions, eventually, the sub-sector will appear in the leading enterprises.
